Spoiler Free!

I just spent the last four days binge-watching the new Daredevil season on Netflix. In my self-appointed expert opinion, this show has redefined what a superhero TV series should be. I will be starting with what I believe to be the pros of the show and then go onto the cons… if i can find some.

Pros:

• The best part of the show is that the production team was very familiar with the characters and weren’t afraid to stray from the happy, comedic feel that we usually see from our Marvel products. It was dark and gritty, and not afraid to show that our hero can bleed.
• Wilson Fisk. Need I say more? Vincent D’Onofrio was so spectacular in this role of playing the most terrifying version of the Kingpin ever seen on screen, even in the cartoon show… yes, I mean the Spider-Man Animated Series. In this season of Daredevil, at times even I found myself cheering for him to succeed. I knew he was the bad guy, but I understood what he was trying to accomplish, and what drove him to do the things he did. And as the show went on I grew more and more fond of him, but yet more terrified than I have ever been of any on screen villain adaption. I hope that we see his return to the show in season two or possibly in The Defenders, a show that Netflix and Marvel will be releasing in the future. One thing to add, though: next time wear the white suit please!
• The Devil of Hells Kitchen, Charlie Cox, was able to bring a version of the character that made me forget Ben Affleck’s version (as much as I love Ben I can’t forget how horrendous that movie was). Charlie Cox made you feel like his Matt Murdock really was blind, but could still “see” better than any of us ever can. I loved how they handled his back story: a few five minute flash-backs in a couple of episodes. It wasn’t too saturated with backstory, which i hate so much (I’m looking at you, Arrow). it was short and made us understand why he does what he does, and how he attained his skills. He made you believe that a blind man could kick some real ass. Charlie Cox’s rendition of the character made me begging for season two.  
• The Plot. The show did an amazing job of making you feel that everyone had something to lose, from Daredevil to Foggy to the Kingpin of crime, Wilson Fisk. I was always on the edge of my seat wanting more, which is the reason i finished in four days (I would have finished sooner if I didn’t have assignments). The plot had intricate layers which allowed the viewer to see the point of view from almost every character’s eyes.

Cons:

•  It was too damn short! I definitely wanted more than 13 episodes, and I rightfully assume that I’m not the only one. Hopefully when season two comes out we can get a full 22 episodes.
• Foggy,Elden Henson. Don’t be angry, I loved his character, and Elden Henson did an amazing job on building the essence of Foggy. He was the comedic relief in an otherwise dark show, however I wanted to see more development on his character. I didn’t feel like he was really risking anything in the show, he was being tossed around in everyone else’s main stories. He was a B-level character that should have been top tier.
  

Overall, I loved this show and it left me wanting more. I give Daredevil Season one 4.5/5 stars.
